Neighborhood House Association' s CONNECTION program is a teen pregnancy
prevention program that provides proactive education to high-risk teens. The program
serves teens through in-school curriculum aimed at assisting youth to make responsible
decisions relevant to sexual and reproductive behavior. The CONNECTION program targets the
underlying causes of unwed teen pregnancies in the community by providing education,
counseling, referrals, mentoring and recreation services to local youth.
Objectives
- Reduce the number of teen pregnancies in the community
- Reduce the number of children who grow up in fatherless homes as a result of teen pregnancies
- Promote responsible parenting and the involvement of the father in the economic, social and emotional support of his children
Eligibility
Neighborhood House Association's CONNECTION program is free of charge and open to teens
ages 12 to 18 who live primarily in the following communities:
- Downtown
- Encanto
- La Mesa
- Logan Heights
- Paradise Hills
- Southeast San Diego

Services
Each teen enrolled in The CONNECTION program learns problem-solving and decision-making
skills, understanding of values, reproductive health education and self esteem building. Services to parents of participants include counseling and referrals.
- Teen Responsibility education focuses on promoting abstinence and encouraging responsible behavior among teens, as well as teaching them about the reality of parenthood and the long-term financial and emotional consequences of becoming a teen parent.
- Male Responsibility targets young men up to 24 years of age and focuses on the male's role in pregnancy prevention and the responsibility of being a father.
